President of the Republic of Korea pays state visit to Myanmar from 3 – 5 September

President U Win Myint and First Lady Daw Cho Cho welcomed President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in and wife Kim Jung-sook at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on 3 September afternoon.

On arrival at the Presidential Palace at 3 pm, President U Win Myint and First Lady Daw Cho Cho greeted the visiting President and his wife. The two presidents took the salutes of the guard of honor before they inspected it and introduced the members of their respective delegations.

After the welcoming ceremony, the visiting Korean president signed the visitors’ book.

The two presidents and their wives then posed for documentary photos.

During the meeting of the two presidents, they discussed promotion of friendly ties and cooperation, investments, economy, agriculture, construction, transportation, cultural sector, human resource development, infrastructural development, establishment of the Korea-Myanmar Industrial Complex, industrial sector development, and promoting tourism industry and promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

They also exchanged views on peace and stability of the Korean peninsula, emergence of business opportunities between the two countries in line with the New Southern Policy adopted by the Republic of Korea, creating more employment opportunities for Myanmar migrant workers in RoK, protection of their labour rights, and peace-making efforts in Myanmar.

The meeting was also attended by Union Ministers Lieutenant General Kyaw Swe, Lieutenant General Sein Win, U Kyaw Tint Swe, Dr Pe Myint, U Min Thu, U Soe Win, U Thaung Tun and U Kyaw Tin, as well as Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Korea U Thant Sin and the Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Lee Sang-hwa.
