Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the EU, H.E. Mr. Soe Lynn Han, co-chaired an informal session between the DASE Delegation of the European Parliament (the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and ASEAN – DASE), and the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) on 14 November 2019 at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
This is the first ABC-DASE Meeting under the auspices of Myanmar’s Chairmanship of ABC and first Chairmanship of Honourable MEP Mr. Daniel Caspary of DASE in the new European parliamentary term (2019-2024).
At the outset, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Soe Lynn Han in his capacity as the ABC Chair, underlined the importance of this very forum between ABC and DASE, which would pave the way forward to consolidating bilateral relations not only between the two bodies but also between ASEAN and EU as a whole in this very critical time on the global stage with many critical challenges. During the meeting, ABC and DASE expressed their willingness and readiness to strengthen the good relations between the two entities, and to work together serving as important vehicles to push forward partnership and cooperation in both regional and bilateral contexts. In this connection, the parties exchanged their views and outlooks towards exerting cooperative momentum in the sectors of mutual interests including climate change and the environment, counterterrorism, trade and investment, sustainable development, maritime security, cyber security and connectivity. Moreover, the participants agreed to continue direct and closer engagement between ABC and DASE based on constructive dialogue, and to promote people-to-people connectivity between the two regions for mutual respect and mutual understanding.
The meeting was followed by a casual tea party which allowed the participants to extend their networks and have a friendly photo session.
