Ambassador H.E. U Soe Lynn Han attended the ASEAN-EU round table held among the Head of Missions of ASEAN Embassies in Brussels, Permanent Representatives of Germany, Portugal and Solvenia to the EU (incumbent and upcoming presidents of the Council of the EU) and Managing Director/ Directors-General from EU institutions (European External Action Service, Directorate-General of Trade(DG-TRADE), Directorate- General of Mobility and Transport (DG- MOVE), Directorate-General of International Cooperation and Development (DG-DEVCO)) at the Sofitel Brussels Hotel on 23rd July 2020.
At the meeting, the attendees mainly discussed and exchanged views on the recent developments in the politics and security of Indo-pacific region, prospects to boost ASEAN-EU connectivity in the time of travel restrictions imposed by individual countries due to COVID-19, prospects of cooperation in the manufacturing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine, means to replenish the appropriated funding for grants and loans from the capital market for EU leaders’ approved 1.8 trillion Euro COVID recovery fund such as possible imposition of carbon and digital tax and potential impacts of such taxation on the EU’s trade partner third countries etc.
